We are excited to announce that FertigHy has chosen the Hauts-de-France region in Northern France for its first industrial-scale plant of low-carbon, nitrogen-based fertilizers. This decision marks a crucial milestone in our mission to support the decarbonisation of the European agricultural sector.
The new plant, which will be operational by 2030, will produce 500,000 metric tons of fertilizers annually, which corresponds to around 10% of France’s agricultural sector’s consumption. This project requires an estimated investment of €1.3 billion and will create around 250 direct jobs in the region, demonstrating our commitment to local economic development and job creation.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the French government for their support, announced at the hashtagChooseFranceSummit. A special thanks to Roland Lescure, Ministre délégué chargé de l’industrie et de l’énergie, Xavier Bertrand Président de la Région Hauts-de-France and Laurent Saint-Martin, CEO of Business France, for their support. Their backing is essential for kickstarting our operations and reflects our shared vision for a more sustainable future. The support from the French government has been a decisive factor in choosing France as the location for our first fertilizer manufacturing plant.
By using renewable and low-carbon electricity to produce hydrogen, a substitute for imported natural gas, hashtagFertigHy takes a decisive step towards the production of European fertilizers and the reduction of import dependencies. With this initiative, FertigHy will significantly contribute to the decarbonisation of agriculture, a hard to abate sector.
We especially thank FertigHy’s founding investors: EIT InnoEnergy, RIC Energy, MAIRE, Siemens Financial Services, InVivo, and The HEINEKEN Company, for their ongoing support. Together, we want to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable agricultural model in Europe.
